Daily Life Tip #44

Host a Friendship Feast

Picture a Friendship Feast, where each friend brings a dish packed with memories and meaning.

The goal? To ignite stories and nostalgia.

As you and your friends reminisce, this will build stronger connections over shared experiences and mouthwatering dishes.

Benefits:

  • By reliving cherished memories and engaging in positive interactions, you’re activating brain regions linked to joy and contentment.
  • This will enhance your mood and overall well-being in the company of friends.

Life Hack:

Capture your fondest memories with friends and identify common themes. For example, this could include beach days or cozy nights. Then, craft a menu inspired by those themes to create a culinary journey down memory lane.

Daily Life Tip #45

Ditch Materialism

Meet the Borrowbird, a native of New Guinea.

Did you know these birds have elaborate courtship rituals

Males construct and decorate intricate nests to woo females.

In this way, the Borrowbird is a little like humans who use material possessions to signal status and to express themselves.

Yet, beware of succumbing to the primal urge to impress.

Prioritize necessity over excess, indulging in self-expression with moderation. Avoid getting ensnared in the cycle of excessive consumption.

Benefit:

  • Cutting down on material possessions lets you save money for what counts: investing in life experiences and helping others.
  • Plus, it’s a win for the planet! Less stuff means less waste and fewer resources used.

Life Hack:

  • Before you swipe that card, ask yourself: “Does buying this align with my life goals, or am I just adding clutter?”

Daily Life Tip #46

Question Your Social Media Use

Social media connects us with loved ones and communities instantly. But before hitting “post,” pause and ask yourself why.

Beware: Social media can inflate egos.

Are you posting solely to impress others?

Are you trying to curate a perfect life?

Know that doing so can harm the well-being of others.

Keep it real online. Share the highs and lows of life authentically. And if you’re only posting for the show, maybe it’s time to rethink.

Benefit:

  • Unveiling your authentic self dismantles the facade of perfection.
  • This will foster a vibrant and nurturing online community to support the well-being of all.

Life Hack:

  • Before posting, ask yourself: “What is my intention hereWhat do I hope to achieve by posting this?”

Daily Life Tip #47

If You Can’t Say It to Their Face, Then Don’t Say It

Everyone makes mistakes.

Yet when others slip up, it can lead you to dish out gossip about that person.

But here’s the thing: that gossip can spiral into harmful rumors faster than you can say “Chinese whispers.”

Plus, it’s not fair to the person you’re talking about. They don’t get a chance to share their side or apologize if they’ve hurt you.

If you’ve got a problem with a person, talk it out with them directly.

Benefit:

  • Gossip will give you a quick thrill by releasing oxytocin and lowering cortisol (the stress hormone). But in the long run, it’s not worth it.
  • Gossip can leave others feeling betrayed and excluded. By steering clear of gossip, you’ll be known as a reliable, morally sound individual that people are drawn to.

Life Hack:

  • Live by the rule: If you wouldn’t say it to their face, it’s best left unsaid.

Daily Life Tip #48

Love Intentionally

Research indicates that people in long-term relationships tend to be happier than those who aren’t.

This isn’t to say being single is bad. Not at all.

This tip is more for those in relationships, to intentionally nurture love every day.

Science shows that around the three-year mark, the initial spark in a relationship might dim, leading you to question if the love is still there.

It’s common to feel tempted by the thrill of someone new. But hold on!

Recognize that these feelings are normal and temporary.

Understanding this can prevent you from constantly chasing excitement elsewhere, which may not lead to lasting happiness.

Note: This advice only applies to healthy, supportive relationships. If your partner is abusive, disrespectful, or unfaithful, being single is much better for your well-being.

Benefit:

  • Long-term relationships offer more than just companionship; they provide vital social support that boosts self-confidence and reduces stress.

Life Hack:

  • Boost your relationship daily by reminding yourself of three things you love about your partner. It could be something they’ve done or a trait you admire in their personality.

Daily Life Tip #49

Create a Fear List

You’ve heard of a bucket list. But have you ever drawn out a fear list?

Think of all the things you’re frightened of, and list these.

Examples include public speaking, a fear of spiders, heights, and flying.

Next, think: Which activities will put you face-to-face with your fears in a safe environment?

Order these activities as per the exposure created.

For instance, if you fear flying, you can book shorter flights, before challenging yourself to longer flights. (Don’t forget to offset the carbon footprint of your flights!)

Benefit:

  • Most fears are irrational. Fear can hold you back in life, and lower your self-confidence. By putting yourself in fearful situations, you learn how to manage your fear.
  • With gradual exposure, you teach your body that these situations don’t present any harm.
  • With time, you’ll find your fear diminishes.

Life hack:

  • Give yourself the challenge of tackling one fear from your list every 1-6 months, depending on how much effort it requires. Remember, consistency is crucial for conquering your fears!

Daily Life Tip #50

Practice Reverse Budgeting

Instead of wrangling with a strict budget, the moment your paycheck hits your account, stash away a chunk for savings before spending a dime.

This is called reverse budgeting, which is like flipping the script on traditional budgeting!

Benefits:

  •  Reverse budgeting makes saving a must-do, no ifs, or buts. By putting savings first, you’ll naturally adjust your spending to fit what’s left.
  • It’s a genius move to ensure you’re always padding your piggy bank for those big financial dreams.

Life Hack:

  • Ready to hack your way to financial freedom? Map out your budget to figure out your monthly savings goal, then automate it with a direct debit straight into your savings account. Boom! Money magic in action.
